What if I had a magic wand?

I ask clients who see me for SoL Sessions, “If I had a magic wand, what would we do for you?”

All too often the answer begins with, “I don’t want…”

“I don’t want to feel insecure anymore.”

“I don’t want to keep doing this thing I’m doing.”

“I don’t want to be so anxious.”

“I don’t want to let her get to me.”

“OK. Got it.”, I say. “And what DO you want?”  or “If you didn’t feel like that how WOULD you feel?”

Again, I often get an answer that’s negative-tense:

“I wouldn’t care what other people thought so much.”

“I wouldn’t worry about what she’s doing or saying about me.”

“I wouldn’t be a nervous wreck.”

It can take a lot of coaching and guiding until someone sees that they have not identified what they want to feel, be or have.

It’s a MAGIC WAND people! C’mon. Don’t waste it.

We all have one. It’s called the mind. It’s just being misused in the service of worry, fear, expectation, resentment, complaining and doubt. Those things turn it off and render it useless or even dangerous.

It’s turned on by dreaming, knowing our worth and our power, stating our truth and our heart’s desire, trusting in Unseen Forces of Good.

Identify it, claim it, say it out loud or write it down — that thing you want to manifest in yourself or in the world. Find the positive, the affirmative. Rather than “I wouldn’t be a nervous wreck.”, “I’ll be calm and at peace.”

I’m a big fan of writing it down or creating a visual somehow. That’s why I had made a vision board of the relationship of my dreams when I was single. I had used several pictures from a Yoga Journal spread with a couple, just to symbolize and signify doing things together. The thing is, the guy looks so much like my husband, it’s crazy!

Also, I accidentally fell upon the write-it-down-make-it-happen phenomenon a long time ago when I was trying to organize my week and fit in all of the things that I wanted to do. I wrote on a week-at-a-glance sheet what I would love to do when — including work, exercise, meditation, fun, etc. Then I lost track of it and when I found it weeks later I realized that my life had morphed into that schedule almost exactly, with new opportunities fitting right into place as they had come up.

There is an essential final step as well. After identifying in positive terms that which we want, imagining it and putting it out in words or pictures…

Allow it.

Allow it to be. Allow it to become. Allow a flow of love to move through you that could move mountains. Enjoy life. Love yourself. Take a step that seems in line with your dream, if it sounds fun to do or exciting or challenging in that good way.

If you’re a believer, pray to your Higher Power or angel or deceased loved one. Say, “I want you with me. Help me. Thank you.”

God’s love is always shining on us, on everyone. But we have free will. We let it in, or not. We let it through us and out into the world, or not. With our magic wands. With our minds. With our state of being in the present or focusing on the past with negativity and complaints.

So if I had a magic wand, what would we do for you? Go ahead, state it. Envision it. Allow it.

And may it be so.
